Literacy
Picture These Compound Words
Write a student-generated list of compound words on the chalkboard. Have each student select one. Then have him fold a piece of white
construction paper as shown. On the outside of the folded paper, the student illustrates and labels the two words that make up his compound.
On the inside, he illustrates and labels the compound word. Mount the pictures on a bulletin board titled "Picture These Compound Words!"
Math
Math Links
Program ten small index cards with numbers students are learning. Laminate the cards; then punch a hole in the top right-hand corner of each one.
Place the cards at a center along with a supply of colored paper clips or counting links. Invite each child to the center and have her link the
correct number of clips to each card as shown. Then have the child sequence the cards and compare the different lengths of clips.
Quick Tip
Terrific Turkey
Here's a gobblin' good way to display student work. Cut out a turkey's body and legs from poster board. Then use construction paper to add
zany facial features. Mount the turkey on a wall. Staple each child's work sample on construction paper and arrange the work around the turkey
to resemble feathers.
