Skill: getting acquainted
Help students feel comfortable with each other right from the start with this can-do activity! The first day, ask each child to write a zany but true fact about herself. Collect the facts and type them—without students' names—on paper titled and trimmed as shown. The next day, give each child a copy of the page and have her go around the room trying to match each classmate with a correct fact. After a set amount of time, have students return to their seats. Then read aloud one fact at a time. When a child hears her fact being read, have her stand and tell a bit more about it. What a great icebreaker!
