Type: idea
Skill: letter or word recognition
Use this lotto game for either letter or word recognition. Program a few copies of the gameboard (see print link), writing one letter or word per box and making each gameboard unique. Make one copy of each programmed gameboard and then cut apart the boxes to make caller's cards. Have each child color and cut out a copy of a programmed gameboard and a copy of the acorn cards (see print link). To play, take a caller's card at random and read it aloud. Instruct each student with a corresponding gameboard space to cover it with an acorn card. Continue the game as described until one or more students cover all of their gameboard spaces and call out, "Hooray for fall!"
