Literacy Center: letter-sound associations

Entice your students to reinforce letter-sound associations with a poster idea that's perfect for your art center! To prepare, draw a large version of a letter on poster board, cut it out, and then clip it to an art easel. Stock the center with half sheets of construction paper, crayons, scissors, glue, and old magazines. When a student visits this center, have her draw and then cut out an object whose name begins with the displayed letter's sound. (Or have her cut out a picture from a magazine.) see more Then direct her to glue her cutout to the letter poster. Review each student's artistic addition to the finished collage and then display the poster in your classroom. Repeat for other letters. There you have it: a student-generated collection of letter-perfect posters.
